ABlog Fuzzys Taco Shop exterior

Fuzzy’s Taco Shop in downtown Arlington is a fun, casual atmosphere with good, cheap food. Their Baja Tacos are only $1.99 each and Jumbo Burritos only $5.49 to $5.99. The most expensive item on the menu is the Fajita Plate ($7.99), and that includes two side items. The fajita Big Salad is only $6.99.  And, yes, they also serve breakfast.

Hey, you gotta like a place that sells its own t-shirts and koozies as well as Fuzzy’s Butt Burnin’ Sauce ($3.75). Fuzzy’s has some catchy slogans: “Eat Me (picturing a fish swallowing a person whole)” as well as “Welcome to Your New Addiction”. Gift cards are available in any amount from $4.37 to $501.00 (I told you they have a sense of humor).

The building is bright blue on the outside (you cant’ miss it as you drive down Abram, just east of City Hall). There’s a patio with brightly colored picnic tables. Inside, four plasma flat-screen tv’s are set to ESPN or whichever sporting event is taking place at the time. The walls are painted bright primary colors. You order at the counter, then pick up your food when your number is called. It can get pretty busy during the lunch hour on weekdays, but the line moves quickly.

Back to the menu…the tacos, burritos and grilled sandwiches include these choices: grilled or tempura fish, grilled or tempura shrimp, chicken, shredded spicy pork, ground beef, grilled veggie, or garlic shredded beef. Please allow me to recommend the garlic shredded beef. I haven’t tried the grilled veggies yet, but will do so on my next visit.

Among the appetizers, the quesadillas ($5.49) and nachos (5.99) are popular, but be sure to order the queso..it’s white cheese instead of regular nacho cheese. There are also black bean, corn and tortilla soups ($2.99).

Kids plates (12 & under) are only $3.49 and include the drink. Choice include: cheese quesadilla, enchilada plate, taco plate, or cheese nachos.

Don’t forget that Fuzzy’s is also open for breakfast daily at 7am. The huevos rancheros ($5.99), migas ($5.99) and chilaquiles ($5.99) are platters which include refried beans, tortiallas, green sauce, and Latin fried potatos.

I prefer the breakfast tacos ($1.99) each, but there are also burritos ($4.99 to $5.49) for those of you who want something more hearty in the morning. You can even get a shrimp/egg/cheese breakfast taco or burrito. Other choices are potato/egg/cheese, chorizo/egg/cheese, or bacon/egg/cheese.

Fuzzy’s is on Abram, just a few blocks east of City Hall and the Levitt Pavilion. If you’re planning on attending one of the free concerts at Levitt Pavilion this summer, I suggest walking down to Fuzzy’s either before-or-after the concert. The restaurant is open til 2am on Friday & Saturday nights.

Very good food. Very good prices. Very casual.  Welcome to my new addiction. Oh, and they cater. So call (817) 265 TACO if you need catering for an upcoming event.

SWAMP DADDY’S Bar & Smokin’ Hot Seafood Grill
740 Lincoln Square (southwest corner of Collins @ I-30, restaurant faces westward; next to Petsmart)
Hours: 11am-2am Daily
(817) 469-4747

Add some Cajun spice to your lunch or dinner at Swamp Daddy’s which not only features standards like shrimp creole and jambalaya, but also fried gator tail, frog legs and Dungeness crab. If you enjoy grilled oysters, choose among garlic parmesan, Buffalo, mesquite, or Oysters Rock-a-fella ($9.95 dozen, $6.95 half dozen). Oysters Laredo is $10.95 dozen/$7.50 half dozen. For lovers of fried seafood, all fried items are hand-breaded in Swamp Daddy’s own batter.

I love sweet potato fries and luckily it’s a side serving (along with Cajun corn, Cajun new taters, red beans & rice, dirty rice, breaded okra, French fries, hush puppies). The squash & veggies was nothing to write home about. Stick with the fried stuff (so much for eating healthy!).

You must be 18 or older to enter because Swamp Daddy’s is more of a bar than a family restaurant. It’s very casual with sharks and fish mounted to the walls, plus there’s a wall of video games. I was there at lunch and it was evenly split between patrons at the bar and patrons seated at tables.

Lunch specials are only $6.95 and include 2 side servings. The lunch specials include fried shrimp, popcorn shrimp, fried catfish, chicken strips, chicken jambalaya, shrimp creole, blackened tilapia, and chicken fried steak. I had the blackened tilapia which was very good and served on a bed of dirty rice. My friend enjoyed the chicken jambalaya which is really spicy. If you like your seafood spicy, I think you’ll like this place.

If you can arrive between 4-6pm on Monday through Saturday, that’s the Seafood Happy Hour in which all food is 20% off.

As for dinner entrees: shrimp creole is $10.95, prime rib sandwich is $9.50, Po-Boys are $7.95 (shrimp, fried oyster, crawfish, catfish), blackened tuna salad is $9.95 and smoked salmon salad is $9.95. Among the specialties, the Dungeness Crab/Shrimp/Crawfish entrée is the highest price item on the menu at $20.95. The hot-boiled Dungeness Crab is $19.95.

There are also daily specials Sunday thru Thursday including: Monday All You Can Eat Popcorn Shrimp ($10.50); Tuesday Half-Price Topless Oysters; Wednesday All You Can Eat Fried Catfish ($11.50); Thursday buy-1-get-1-free chicken fried steak; Super Sunday discounted menu 5-11pm.

If you visit Swamp Daddy’s prior to a Rangers, you can catch a shuttle from Lincoln Square to Rangers Ballpark. The shuttle picks up patrons in the parking lot in front of the restaurant. Want to enjoy a pitcher of beer before-or-after the game? A pitcher of Coors or Miller Hi-Life is $5.00 (less than one cup of beer at the game!).

But don’t use the Rangers game as an excuse to stop by. There are daily drink specials, too. And the $6.95 lunch specials are very reasonably priced for a nice portion of food.
