The two Arlington locations of Piranha Killer Sushi are not only two of the very best restaurants in the city, but two of the top sushi/Japanese restaurants in all of North Texas. And even if you’re not a huge sushi lover, come to the daily Happy Hour (4pm-7pm) for the fabulous martinis and wine specials! Desserts are a real treat, too (tempura cheesecake, apple walnut spring roll, tempura ice cream, Crème Brulee). “Reverse Happy Hour” (the final two operating hours of the evening) also offer drink specials.

For the past 10 years, Piranha Killer Sushi has delighted diners in Arlington. It’s not just the presentation that we come to expect from a top-flight sushi/Japanese restaurant. It’s truly the delicious and fresh food.

But the folks in North Arlington aren’t the only winners. Thanks to a second location in the Arlington Highland Shopping & Dining District, there are now two Arlington locations. The original north location on Green Oaks Blvd at Collins has a popular open-air bar that makes it a popular hang-out spot (whether you like sushi, or just the killer martinis!). The south location in Arlington Highlands (northeast corner of Matlock at I-20) is, in my humble opinion, your best choice among all the dining options in the district.

Here’s the bottom line: when I have friends visiting from out-of-town and I want to impress them with an Arlington restaurant that’s not the same old barbecue or Tex-Mex, I bring them here. Does it cost a little more than Tex-Mex or barbecue? Yes. But you get what you pay for. And healthy options are important, too.

Just glancing at the appetizers (24 items on the menu), you know you’re in for a treat. Choices include: Crab Cake w/pineapple & mango salsa ($9.95), to vegetable tempura ($5.25), to sesame seared tuna ($11.95) to Bahamian Conch Salad ($10.95), to spicy cucumber & tomato salad ($6.95).

Lunch is a good deal as lunch entrees range in price from $8.95 (vegetable tempura, or vegetable Yaki Udon) to $12.95 (Sashimi Bento, or Ginger Beef). Most of the luches are $8.95 to 10.95. Selections include Shrimp Tempura, Grilled Salmon, Yakitori Chicken, Lemongrass Shrimp. There are 18 selections on the lunch menu alone.

But you don’t have to limit yourself to the lunch menu (or dinner entrée menu). The Piranha Signature Rolls are the most creative menu items.

According to general manager Hieu Trong, some of the most popular signature sushi rolls are the “Dr Fran” (shrimp tempura, eel, masago, crème cheese w/tuna & avocado, $10.95), the Wasabi Crusted Salmon Roll ($10.95), and the Lobster Roll ($13.95). On my last visit, I had the Dragon Roll ($9.95) which is shrimp tempura & asparagus w/salmon & avocado. The Southwest Roll ($9.95) has a chipotle pesto over a California roll; the Tri-Color Sashimi Roll ($9.95) has tuna, salmon, white tunat and crab w/cucumber.

There are a total of 23 signature rolls on the menu.

The prices for the “a la carte” sushi/sashimi range from $1.25 (quail egg) to $2.00 (crab, squid, masago) to $2.95 (salmon egg) to $2.95 (sweet shrimp).

Classic Rolls range in price from $3.95 (avocado roll, cucumber roll) to $4.95 (salmon skin roll, eel roll) to $5.25 (tune roll, salmon roll). There are 9 different classic roles on the menu.

The Hand Rolls range in price from $4.95 to $5.50; soft shell crab hand roll is $10.95.

But please don’t think of this restaurant and just a sushi/sashimi place. Not, it’s not just “raw fish” (as sushi detractors like to say). The entrée’s include choices of beef, chicken and grilled shrimp or salmon.

Among the 19 entrée choices are: Medallions of Beef Tenderloin Teriyaki ($19.95), Crunchy Chicken over Wok Veggies ($13.95); Chicken Teriyaki ($12.95); Grilled Salmon ($15.95), Salmon Teriyaki ($15.95); Ginger Beef ($17.95), Pad Thai w/Grilled Shrimp & Chicken ($15.95); Shrimp & Vegetable Tempura ($15.95).

Maybe you’ve tried ‘fried ice cream’ at a Mexican restaurant. But have you ever had “Tempura Ice Cream” or “Tempura Cheesecake”? Well, you can try it here, along with an “Apple Walnut Spring Roll”, “Banana Spring Roll A La Mode”, Crème Brulee, or “Tower of Chocolate”. The “Red Bean Ice Cream” and “Green Tea Ice Cream” are $4.50 each; the other desserts range in price from $5.95 to $7.95.

Private catering is also available. For more information and requests, call them at (817) 860-5050 or e-mail a question to info@piranhakillersushi.com.
